Description |
Auto Type Fixed Disk | If the end user presses Enter while this item is highlighted, the BIOS will attempt to auto detect the hard drive's parameters. |
Type | This setting defines the drive type, and can be set to a user defined type. If the end user sets this item to user defined, they will need to enter in the cylinders, heads, and sectors for the drive. |
Cylinders (Cyl) | This setting defines the number of logical or physical cylinders of the drive. |
Heads | This setting defines the number of logical or physical heads of the drive. |
Sectors/Tracks | This setting defines the number of logical or physical sectors or tracks of the drive. |
Landing Zone | This setting defines where the landing zone is defined for the drive heads. |
Write Precompensation | This setting is used to alleviate bit shift. This setting was primarily used on older drives. |
Multi-Sector Transfers | This setting determines whether data is going to be transferred sequentially or by mulitple sectors at one time. If this setting is going to be used, here are the available settings: 2 Sectors 4 Sectors 8 Sectors 16 Sectors Auto Disabled |
LBA Mode Control | This setting allows for the Local Bus to control the mode of operation for the drive. This can be enabled or disabled. |
32 Bit I/O | This setting will enable or disable 32 Bit I/O operations from the BIOS. |
Transfer Mode | This setting sets which I/O mode will be used with the specific drive. The options for this setting is as follows: Standard Fast PIO 1 Fast PIO 2 Fast PIO 3 |
