PB680 Video Memory Upgrade

Caution Only authorized service personnel should upgrade the system. Anyone who wants to upgrade the system themselves should know about the dangers of ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) and the necessary precautions. Unknowingly zapping the components of the computer will void the warranty.

Notes

  1. Installing a video expansion card will automatically disable onboard video for this motherboard.
  2. S3 Trio64V+ motherboards have 1MB expandable to 2MB.
  3. S3 Virge 3D motherboards have 2MB Non Upgradable.
  4. 1024 x 768, 256 colors are possible with 1MB.
  5. 1280 x 1024, 256 colors are possible with 2MB.
  6. VESA Display Channel is supported.
  7. The video system is DPMS compliant.

Specifications
The PB680 without the 3D Virge chipset can be upgraded to 2MB video memory using two 256Kx16-50ns SOJ EDO DRAM chips.
Some PB680 motherboards will have the 3D Virge chipset. These units will have 2 MB of video soldered onboard. They are not upgradeable further.

Location
The video memory upgrade is inserted in sockets U2J1 and U3J1. Pin 1 is at the front right corner of the socket. To install the chip, insert it into the socket and push until the chip snaps into place.
