PB680 Video Memory Upgrade

Note

The PB680 uses S3 Inc. Trio64V+ or S3 Virge 3D PCI Video Chipset. The S3 Trio64V+ and S3 Virge are compatible with IBM VGA standards.
S3 Trio64V+ motherboards have 1MB expandable to 2MB

S3 Virge 3D motherboards have 2MB Non Upgradable

Specifications

The PB680 can be upgraded to 2MB video memory using two 256Kx16-50ns SOJ EDO DRAM chips. The following brands and part numbers are recommended.
 
Some PB680 motherboards will have the 3D Virge chipset. These units will have 2 MB of video soldered onboard. They are not upgradeable further.  

Location

The video memory upgrade is inserted in sockets U2J1 and U3J1. Pin 1 is at the front right corner of the socket. To install the chip, insert it into the socket and push until the chip snaps into place.
