The card will use an I/O address to communicate the DSP information to the card. DSP stands for Digital Signal Processing and is generally a method to play a sound with excellent quality. By default this Mwave system will use I/O (Input/Output) address CE30, IRQ (Interrupt Request) 10 and DMA (Direct Memory Access)7. The I/O address will reserve a range of 16 bytes.
The modem configuration will contain the COM settings of the modem. The default will be I/O address 2F8 and IRQ interrupt 3 which results in COM2.
The third section of hardware settings are concerning the Soundblaster emulation. It will reserve the I/O address 220, IRQ 5 and DMA 1 by default.
The Joystick can be enabled or disabled. The default is enabled.
The CD-ROM interface be enabled/disabled. The default is disabled because Packard Bell systems use the IDE controller integrated on the motherboard for the CD-ROM drive.
If the hardware settings are changed with the MWCONFIG the driver in the C:\CONFIG.SYS will automatically use the new settings and no further software changes are required, however, a restart is required.
